Steve Shoemaker (D-Caledonia)

Q: Why politics?

A: “Why not? Everything that takes place around us for the most part is impacted by political decisions whether it’s the condition of the roads, safety of our medications, the safety of our food, the public schools, housing, just everything almost is impacted by political decisions. I’ve sat on the sidelines far too long and watched things take place that I think were wrong coming out of Lansing. I don’t think they appreciate the will of the voters and I think they’re circumventing that most, most times, or a lot of times.”

Q: Under what dire circumstance or government necessity would you be willing to support a tax increase?

A: “I’m not certain I’m willing to support a tax increase without looking at every other option first.”

Q: If the election were held today, why would you – or – why would you not, vote for your party’s Presidential nominee?

A: “I’m a little hesitant to vote for either party’s nominee in this election but I will say this much, I think in spite of all the recent press about Mrs. Clinton I think she’ll make a far better and more experienced candidate than Donald Trump will.”

Steven Johnson (R-Wayland)

Q: Why politics?

A: “To me if you look at our country and our state it’s going in the wrong direction and it’s time for strong Christian men to step up and to speak out and to stand up for what’s right. And so to me I have felt called to step into the political arena and to fight this fight. ”

Q: Under what dire circumstance or government necessity would you be willing to support a tax increase?

A: “I would not be willing to support a tax increase under any circumstance right now because our budget is to big as it is and instead we need to make the budget decrease by cutting spending to government waste.”

Q: If the election were held today, why would you – or – why would you not, vote for your party’s Presidential nominee?

A: “I’m not supporting either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump because neither one of them has the moral character required by a President and neither one of them has shown any inkling to follow the Constitution as intended.”

Q: Who will you vote for?

A: “At this time I’m leaning toward Constitution Party Darrell Castle.”
