A new TV ad from Bill Schuette's gubernatorial campaign criticizes rival Republican Brian Calley for attending Harvard University while serving as lieutenant governor - missing days he could have been presiding over the Michigan Senate.
The 30-second ad launched Tuesday will air on broadcast stations for nine days in Grand Rapids, Flint and Traverse City.
It accuses Calley of putting "himself first" while attending classes one day a week in Massachusetts to get a master's degree in public administration while earning a six-figure public salary. Calley skipped a third of the legislative sessions over a two-year period, according to the ad.
Calley, who couldn't immediately be reached for comment, has said he paid for the classes and transportation himself and still logged 50 hours a week in his state job.
