Amash: State 'needs to make it right' in Flint

West Michigan lawmaker Justin Amash says the state needs to take financial responsibility for mistakes made in Flint.

"The state spends $33 million on the Pure Michigan ad campaign, yet has only provided $28 million to make sure the people of Flint have pure water," he says.

"So the state has the resources. The state needs to make it right."

Amash's comments were made during a U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing that questioned state and regional environmental officials on decisions made in Flint.

Those giving testimony included Keith Creagh, the recently-appointed interim director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and Joel Beauvais, deputy assistant administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water.

Both deferred comment on a majority of questions, stating a lack of direct knowledge.

Amash, who serves on the Congressional committee, joined multiple lawmakers calling for a new hearing with officials able to speak on the Flint crisis, including Governor Rick Snyder and former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley.
