An oversized tire swing is back in downtown Grand Rapids after a 30-month absence.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the attraction on the lawn behind the Gerald R. Ford Federal Building has been overhauled to make it safer than it was when it broke in September 2013 while two children were on it, injuring them.
Zack Lahring, the worker who completed re-installation on Tuesday, says the swing's new cables and a new attachment were tested at 30,000 pounds.
The swing is part of a 12-ton work of art created by sculptor Mark di Suvero and installed in 1977.
