Biggby Coffee & Mel Trotter Host Holiday Food Drive

As we start to think about and prep for the holidays, local agencies don’t want you to forget those who are less fortunate. Mel Trotter Ministries is holding its annual Holiday Food Drive.  They’re working with Biggby Coffee and Feeding America West Michigan.

“There’s dozens of families that are facing food insecurity and these are working families facing choosing between putting food on the table for the family or filling up their gas tank or keeping the heat on this winter. And so we want to make it so people don’t have to choose between those things.”

That’s Abbey Sladick, VP of Communication with Mel Trotter Ministries.  She says the need continues to be great, and they continue the drive to help out.  The goal here is to collect 50-thousand pounds of non-perishable food items that will be used to help the Mel Trotter pantry.

“We’re asking the community to pick up non perishable food items.  And this food will go to support our Mel Trotter food pantry through the holiday.”

The main host of the drive is Biggby Coffee.   And Coffee shop owner and operator, Tim Hoffman says they’re committed to the community.

“We do it because we appreciated the community we’re in and want to help those in need. And food is one of those things that no one should be without, food is a very important need and we see an opportunity to be able to help there.”

The drive started on October 30th and will run until the end of the year, December 31st.  A complete list of the needed food items and drop off locations is located on the Mel Trotter website at meltrotter.org/fooddrive.
