Davenport University has received a gift to its endowment fund of $5.5 million over the next four years from the M.E. Davenport Foundation.

The school says it's the single largest gift in the university's history and brings historical giving to Davenport University by the independent, family foundation to more than $15.4 million.

With the donation, Davenport University has received more than more than $18 million toward its $25 million goal for its Vision Campaign.

The school's President Richard Pappas says in a statement it will have "a lasting impact on the university's ability to develop innovative new programs."

Davenport University is a private, nonprofit educational institution with nearly 9,000 students at campuses across Michigan and online.
