A dog has been rescued from a pit in western Michigan where he was stranded for several days without food or water.

The Grand Rapids Press reported Monday that Morgan Ford's 2-year-old dog, Wyatt, is back home near Lowell after a child heard him whimpering a week earlier and returned him.

The dirt-covered dog was in a concrete pit that's used to change oil for farm vehicles.

The dog's disappearance prompted a search and it turned out the dog was in a barn across the road.

Wyatt herds cattle and spends most his time outdoors.

Ford says he's obedient and typically is good at staying on the family's property.

Wyatt soon was back to chasing cows on the farm.

Ford says: "Once I hugged him he was tail-wagging and happy."
