Fire damages businesses in downtown Charlevoix

Authorities say a fire has heavily damaged several businesses in downtown Charlevoix, including a restaurant and gallery.

Crews responded Sunday to the fire in the northern Lower Peninsula community that's a popular tourist destination. The Petoskey News-Review reports investigators believe the fire started at Johan's Café and spread to neighboring Round Lake Gallery.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire, which began in the restaurant's basement, is under investigation. Several area departments responded to put out the fire and smoke filled the downtown area.

WPBN-TV reports at least four other businesses nearby had damage.
