A proposed ordinance would allow residential campfires in Grand Rapids.
The open burning ordinance was introduced at a Grand Rapids City Commission meeting this week.
It follows a petition started last year by a resident calling for the changes.
Mayor Rosalynn Bliss says she supports the conversation.
“I think we need to have an open dialogue about it and a conversation and give people an opportunity to react to what’s being proposed and then provide us an opportunity to really listen.”
If approved, residents could apply for one-year fire permits at single or two-family homes.
A public hearing is scheduled later this month.
