The City of Wyoming is receiving state grant dollars to help with improvements at a city park damaged by the 2014 tornado. Wyoming’s Ideal Park was hard hit by a tornado tracking through the area in 2014.
The park lost 90 percent of its mature trees and playground and a shelter were also heavily damaged.
The Grant to Help Ideal Park through the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund is providing $300,000 to replace the trees and replace damaged structures.
The money will be added to dollars already budgeted to phase one of Ideal Park’s capital improvement. Now at $808,000 the City of Wyoming says it will add a new parking area and light all parking areas, add a new connector path and footpath trail, basketball court, trailhead signage and open a play area with irrigation along with a new creek overlook.
More enhancements are on the way for Wyoming’s entire parks and recreation system with roughly $20 million in essential capital improvements identified over the next five years.
