GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A $35,000 grant will be used to help upgrade accessibility and landscaping at a 122-year-old Grand Rapids music hall.

The Grand Rapids Press reports the St. Cecilia Music Society received the grant for its music hall from the Downtown Development Authority. The improvements approved Wednesday will upgrade an entrance and replace the aging lift to the stage, as well as add landscaping to a parking lot.

The upgrades are part of a $2 million campaign that includes replacing auditorium seating and remodeling the lobby. St. Cecilia executive director Cathy Holbrook says the building's roof has already been replaced.

The grant is part of a program to encourage downtown property owners to restore building facades and make buildings more accessible.
