After an extensive search, Grand Valley State University has appointed a new provost. Grand Valley State University selected Maria Cimitile to lead as provost and executive vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. She’s served at Grand Valley for nearly 20 years. Cimitile began her GVSU career in 1999 as an assistant professor in philosophy.

GVSU President Thomas J. Haas explains her appointment was based on “her responsibilities overseeing university curriculum and her experience with budgets, strategic planning, advising and diversity among her many strong suits.”

Cimitile academic background, all in philosophy, includes a Ph.D. earned from the University of Memphis, her master’s degree earned from Villanova and a bachelor’s degree earned at College of the Holy Cross.

Cimitile’s three-year term begins July 1st.
