Houses to Homes.  It’s the annual celebration held by the Inner City Christian Federation.  The event highlights the need for affordable housing in Grand Rapids.  It also celebrates the work of the community to support ICCF’s mission of “making places to come home to.”

“We find that it’s important to us, that if we want West Michigan to be inclusive and equitable, we need to be taking steps that that can remain the case here.”

That’s the CEO of the Inner City Christian Federation, Ryan Ver Wys.  Tomorrow, they celebrate their annual “Houses to Homes” Gala, which highlights the importance of keeping and making housing affordable in the continuously growing Grand Rapids market.

“The need is at a critical point. Everywhere you turn you find families facing situation where there housing is vulnerable or they have to move.  Part of that comes with Grand Rapids being a desirable place to live.  There’s just not enough supply to meet the demand of people who want to live in this community.”

That’s why, says Ver Wys, ICCF continues to commit to making sure it provides housing opportunities for those in need.  Tomorrow’s event will highlight the efforts of community partners and encourage others to help where they can.

“And so, we want to highlight that challenge. But second, we also think it’s a good time to highlight the work of our team has done to address this problem. And community partners, connecting people to homes. Our housing to homes event highlights the imp of home to families and how it increase economic opportunity for folks.  And finally, we hope it inspires people who come in ways they can get involved, to continue to partner, to make west Michigan a community where people of all walks of life have access to beautiful, safe affordable homes and also to increasing economic vitality.”

Two local groups will receive awards for their help with ICCF’s mission at tomorrow night’s event.
