Judge won’t let two “clinical skills models” testify at Strampel prelim

A judge won’t let two women testify against former Michigan State University dean William Strampel at a crucial hearing in June.

Strampel is charged with using his position as a dean to try and get sexual favors from female students.

At a hearing in June, a judge will decide if there is enough evidence to send Strampel’s case to trial.

The prosecution wanted two women to talk about their time as “clinical skills models” for the College of Osteopathic Medicine at that hearing. They say Strampel made inappropriate comments to them after performing invasive medical exams on them for students.

Richard Ball is the judge in this case. He says there’s no need for their testimony at this type of hearing. That’s in part because there’s a low standard of proof to send the case to trial.

“It’s sort of difficult for me to understand why there needs to be further support.”

Ball says he is willing to reconsider the testimony during the hearing in June.
