Man charged with murder in daughter's drowning death

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a Muskegon man has been charged with murder in connection with the drowning death of his 14-month-old daughter. Justin Smutz was arrested Wednesday on an open murder warrant. Police say Adalynn Smutz died May 25 in a Muskegon home after being left unattended in a bathtub with a two-year-old boy. Her funeral was the same day. Smutz is being held at the Muskegon County Jail awaiting arraignment. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney. The Associated Press left a late afternoon message for Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat seeking that information. Investigators say Smutz previously has been convicted of several domestic violence charges and other crimes.
