Man charged with spraying fire extinguisher at Boyne guard

Authorities say a man ran from a security guard and sprayed a fire extinguisher at him during a major fire at a northern Michigan ski resort.

The Petoskey News-Review  says David Soltysiak has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Twelve people were injured early Sunday in a fire at the main lodge at Boyne Highlands, including a man who remains in critical condition.

A police affidavit filed in Emmet County court says a guard was trying to evacuate people from the lodge when he encountered Soltysiak. Investigators say Soltysiak refused to put down a fire extinguisher and instead sprayed it at the guard. Soltysiak was arrested Monday and was still in jail Wednesday.

He's asked for a court-appointed lawyer.
