Mona Shores students ascend 5-story Singing Christmas Tree

Hundreds of choir members at a Michigan high school are putting on their annual holiday show, but won't be performing in front of a Christmas tree.

They are the tree.

The Mona Shores Singing Christmas Tree combines usual elements into an unusual show that'll draw thousands of spectators this weekend.

The five-story tree features 25,000 lights, 5,000 linear feet of greenery, and 15 tiers on which about 220 singers stand. About 50 others are near the base.

It's freshmen at the bottom, sophomores and juniors in the middle, and seniors in the upper levels. At the very top is the "Tree Angel," a senior picked by the choir director.

Senior Brynne Wilcox says it's scarier 14 rows up, but taking part is a cool opportunity most high schoolers don't get.
