In just a few days the Salvation Army will kick off its annual Red Kettle Campaign. But this year, there’s an add-on you should know about. New technology offers a chance for you to give even you don’t have any spare change on you.
How many times have you walked past the Salvation Army’s big, red kettle, but didn’t have or couldn’t find the spare change or dollars to put in, especially during the winter season?
“People are rushing up to the store and perhaps the last thing people want to do is put money in a kettle because of the cold or they actually dig down, then the next thing you hear is I’m sorry, cause they don’t have any cash.”
Major Norman Grainger is the Kent County Coordinator with the Salvation Army. He says you will soon see the Salvation Army Bell Ringers stationed out and about in Kent County, but this year they’re offering up a new way to donate. It’s called the season pass.
“We really live in point and click society where many people are doing a lot of their finances online and this was an opportunity for people to make their purchase online.”
The season pass is available for purchase online in increments of 20, 50 or 100 dollars; plus there’s a special 150 dollar anniversary pin as well. Major Grainger adds that while ways to give are changing, the need for help has not.
“Most of the time people are coming to us for utilities and also our food pantry, there’s a daily use of our food pantry online.
