A teenager has greatly improved a shooting range used by police officers and sheriff's deputies in western Michigan.

Alex Carrier built a shooting shelter and benches for his Eagle Scout project in Allegan County.

The 16-year-old is a member of Troop 354 in Jenison, southwest of Grand Rapids.

Alex was assisted by his parents and other members of the troop.

Area businesses donated tools, lumber and other supplies.

Sheriff Blaine Koops recently presented Alex with a certificate of appreciation.

Koops says the project will benefit officers from all over western Michigan who use the Allegan County range.
