Snyder closes Flint inquiry at behest of criminal investigators

Law enforcement officials have asked Governor Rick Snyder to shut down his administration’s investigation into the state’s handling of the Flint water crisis. They say it’s conflicting with their criminal inquiries.

The issue is state employees were told they had to talk to Michigan State Police officers conducting the Snyder administration’s investigation or lose their jobs. They were also promised their statements would not be used against them in court.

State Attorney General Bill Schuette was one of the law enforcement officials who asked the governor to suspend his administration’s inquiry.

“My pledge to the citizens of this state, and it’s my job, is to make sure that anyone who             broke the law, we’ll hold that person or persons accountable.”

US Attorney Barbara McQuade and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton also signed letters to Snyder. The governor’s office agreed to suspend its inquiry until the criminal investigations wrap up.
