Spectrum Health appoints new President & CEO

Tina Freese Decker
Spectrum Health

Spectrum Health introduced its next President and Chief Executive Officer. WGVU spoke with Tina Freese Decker.

“I am so proud of everyone that works at Spectrum Health and all of our partners. So, it’s an honor to be able to lead this organization.”

Tina Freese Decker will replace Richard C. Breon as President and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Health when he retires at the end of August. After 16 years at Spectrum, Freese Decker will lead the largest employer in the region with more than 25,000 employees. The Spectrum Health system is 12 hospitals and nearly 200 service sites.

I asked what her vision is for Spectrum Health?

“What I do see on the horizon is for health care to be more personalized and have that individual approach. We also need to focus on health and wellness. Not just sick care. And we do a lot of that but we need to expand it to ensure that we are a part of individual’s whole-health journey, not just when they’re sick. We are part of them for their journey when they have the care and their coverage provided by Spectrum Health or Priority Health, but we need to make sure we cover all of that journey to keep them healthy and well.”

Bob Roth, a Spectrum Health System Board Member who chaired the search committee, says “Tina emerged as the best fit based on her deep understanding of health care and her forward-thinking perspective about the future of health and wellness.”
