A 60-year-old Grand Rapids man is dead after being stabbed early Friday morning on Grand Rapids southwest side. Authorities were dispatched at around 2am after a 41-year-old man called 911 and admitted to the stabbing. When police arrived they encountered the murder suspect near Hayden Street holding a knife in his hand, however police took him into custody without incident.

Police discovered the deceased victim minutes later outside of a residence on Sheffield Street. While the two men are thought to have shared a residence, authorities say they are still looking into what caused the murder.

The stabbing Friday morning came after an already relatively violent week in Grand Rapids. Another unrelated stabbing occurred during an attempted carjacking in the Meijer parking lot on Alpine Ave NW Thursday evening, while a man in Grand Rapids was shot three times in the chest early Wednesday morning. Police arrested a 35-year old man for that shooting after a four-hour standoff in Kentwood.
