It’s the busiest travel time of the year. The Thanksgiving Holiday this year will see more than 28-million passengers hit the friendly skies. WGVU talked with a local travel expert about some basic travel tips and how to handle the stress.
“Remember that you’re going to get to your destination, eventually. Keep a smile on your face and pack your patience with you.”
Local Travel expert, JoAnne Verboom with Gagnon Travel offers travel friendly advice for the seasoned and not so frequent traveler.
“Because so many travel during the holidays that only do this once a year, they don’t know the routine with this, not as familiar as frequent fliers are. So, be a little patient with them.”
And that patience could take you a long way as the holiday season kicks off. With it comes the busiest travel period.
“The official Thanksgiving holiday travel time frame runs until next Tuesday. You can expect that there will be 28.5 million people flying during that time frame.”
Verboom adds that with all the travelers comes increasingly long lines in security. She says make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time… printing your boarding pass at home helps, but doesn’t get you through security any quicker. Another and very important travel tip is to protect your home while you’re gone. She advises holding on to your memories until you get home.
“Don’t go on facebook and Instagram, and say hey, we’re in Hawaii or we’re in Riviera Maya or something. It’s certainly fine to share your pictures with your friends, but wait until you return from your trip so that you’re not advertising the fact that your house is vacant and easily accessible for thieves.”
