Officials say about 130 Traverse City property owners will soon receive letters warning them that their drinking water flows through short sections of lead pipe.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports the letters from city officials were prompted by state and federal agencies that directed municipal water system officials to reach out and educate residents about lead and copper.
Testing also is planned as a precaution.
City officials downplayed any concerns about lead contamination in the water supply during a presentation to city commissioners on Monday.
Art Krueger, superintendent of the city's water treatment plant, says Traverse City's water is "very stable and noncorrosive."
The letters come amid Flint's crisis with lead-tainted water.
For 18 months, Flint used corrosive water from the Flint River, which leached lead from old plumbing.
