WGVU Public Media announces LZ Michigan 2017

LZ Michigan 2017, a “Landing Zone” to remember, honor and celebrate community veterans will kick off Friday, September 22nd previewing Ken Burns’ “The Vietnam War” as part of the ArtPrize Cinema Series. ArtPrize Director of Communication, Todd Herring, announcing a Veterans Art Competition in 2017.

“Contemporary art, art of all kinds, is contingent upon freedom of expression and freedom of speech. We don’t have those rights without the sacrifice of our veterans.”

Saturday the 23rd is an all-day LZ event at Fifth-Third featuring military displays, WGVU Real Oldies car & motorcycle show and musical performances.

Also announced, the Battle Creek and Wyoming VA hospitals are the first in the nation to embrace the Human Hug Project launching hug ambassador programs as a way to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

“We’ve been to 36 VA hospitals and we’re not stopping until we’ve hugged veterans at every VA hospital in this country.”

Ian Michael is co-founder of the Human Hug Project he says the organization has hugged more than 20,000 veterans.

WGVU’sLZ Michigan 2017 is a collaboration with PBS Stories of Service, ArtPrize and the West Michigan Whitecaps. Patrick Center, WGVU News.
