Grand Rapids police say a woman is dead following a shooting on the Northeast side of the city early Friday morning.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says the shooting was reported by city workers on Knapp Street near Truxton Drive just after 4 a.m. on Friday morning.

Responding officers found a 31-year old white female with gunshot wounds dead and lying in the roadway.

The city employees were said to be clearing debris with street sweepers when they saw an unknown suspect shoot the woman.

The suspect then reportedly fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

A GRPD representative says the department’s Major Case Team is investigating.

The woman was identified as Melissa Moore of Holland by the GRPD late Friday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 456-3400, or Silent Observer at 774-2345 or SilentObserver.org.
