More than 65,000 veterans call West Michigan home. Within Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon and Allegan Counties, 77 percent are without a bachelor's degree.

Grand Valley State University is working to change those figures celebrating the opening of its Veterans Upward Bound Center. This is where veteran students can find assistance working toward completing their postsecondary educations.

Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas delivered his 11th annual accountability report Friday to the University's Board of Trustees, highlighting a number of successes the university has achieved in the past year. 

Haas said in a time when West Michigan is recruiting talent and skilled workers to the area, he was proud to report that most GVSU graduates are choosing to stay in Michigan when they enter the workforce.

Detroit Tigers host GVSU Night at Comerica Park

Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas along with the vice chair of the GVSU Board of Trustees will kick off GVSU Night at Comerica Park tonight in Detroit. At least 3 bus loads will make their way from the Allendale and Grand Rapids’ campuses.

“It’s our first event to be participating in at Comerica Park, so we’re extremely excited about it," Courtney Geurink, director of Alumni Relations at GVSU said.

University presidents from across the state, including Grand Valley State University, are lobbying against the income tax cut plan.

The leaders of Michigan's 15 public universities are lobbying against an income tax cut they worry would lead to state funding cuts.

While the House has altered the income tax cut and roll back bill. The legislation would now cut the tax down to 3.9 percent by 2021 and then go no further.

The president of Grand Valley State University says he feels "devastated" by four sexual assaults near campus and calls the recent series of attacks a "cancer."

Grand Valley State University and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department continue efforts to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for a string of off-campus assaults. The fourth assault of a female Grand Valley student was reported Tuesday night outside off-campus apartments. The first occurred on Aug. 26.
