Bills on tax cut and elimination of Driver Responsibility Fees on way to governor’s desk

detroitnews.com

Michigan is a signature away from forgiving all of the state’s driver responsibility fees. That’s over 600 million dollars in outstanding fees. This is part of a deal struck between the Legislature and the governor.

Lawmakers and the governor also plan to raise the state’s personal income tax exemption to 49-hundred dollars by 20-21. That’s an estimated average savings of 100 dollars for a Michigan family. Changes to the state’s personal exemption came up as a result of the new federal tax law. It ended the personal exemption on federal income taxes – this new change is meant to make up for that.

The bills passed the House and Senate today. The legislation is now on its way to the governor’s desk.
