The Grand Rapids Income Tax Department is simplifying the process for residents paying City income taxes. Its new "EZ" City Tax Form is available online
The City of Grand Rapids is making it easier for tax filers this year. A new form is now available online under the e-filing prompt and city officials say it’s a good move that could benefit at least 85 percent of resident income tax payers. Here’s Jennifer Woodard, Grand Rapids Income Tax Operations Supervisor.
“It’s good for the residents because we’ve heard that the other was complicated and a lot of unnecessary information for them. That form only really applies in its complexity for non-residents and people excluding income or have a lot of business activity. So this is a simpler form that will help most people in Grand Rapids.”
The City is planning rolling out additional EZ forms in future tax years to simplify the process for other eligible filers. In the meantime, Woodard says residents who might need help can come in to get assistance.
“The income tax department is always here to help. We offer our services for free. If a tax payer is struggling they can come in with the first page of their federal and their W-2’s and we’d be happy to help them.”
The deadline for filing timely 2016 City income tax returns for this year is Monday, May 1st.
