Loeks Theatres planning expansion into Grand Rapids Arena South District

Another mixed-use development project is in the works for downtown Grand Rapids that includes a movie theater.

Grand Rapids Arena South District will expand yet again feeding city dweller desires for entertainment. 616 Development is partnering with Loeks Theatres constructing a mix-use project including apartments and a multi-screen movie theater.

Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. which manages the Downtown Development Authority says it has been working over the past four years to bring a theater project to the entertainment district. The DDA owns a portion of the property to be developed.

MiBiz reports this is a $140 million project with Celebration Cinema investing $100 million into a nine-screen movie theater called Studio C! located at Oakes and Cherry Streets.

The project will also include retail space and an outdoor plaza.

The DDA board will take a closer look at the proposed project Friday.
