Officials consider upgrades at Grand Rapids golf course

Grand Rapids officials are considering spending $2.8 million to spruce up city-owned Indian Trails Golf Course.

The Grand Rapids City Commission is set to consider the proposal Tuesday. It would add a driving range and practice green while also upgrading irrigation, cart paths and the clubhouse.

The Grand Rapids Press  reports funding would come from a 2010 income tax increase. Course manager Lance Climie says the driving range would provide revenue to address future maintenance issues.

The city opted to sell the course in 2007, but the plan was abandoned following public pushback. The course has made a slight profit in each of the past two fiscal years.
