An hours-long standoff with a barricaded gunman ended peacefully this morning in Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids Police say they worked through the night following the incident that began around 10 pm in the 400 block of More Street near College.

Authorities say they received a 9 1 1 call from a witness that a man had fired a gun into the ground near College and Shirley.

Officers received a description of the man and searched the area. A 27 year old male, matching the description was found nearby around 11 pm.

Police say he produced a handgun and appeared suicidal and walked away from officers.

As Police followed, they say the suspect forced entry into a home in the 400 block of More ST NE.

All occupants were able to escape uninjured.

The man then fired several rounds but it’s not known what he was shooting at.

Police say the Crisis Negotiation Team, K-9 Units and other officers used restraint for more than 8 hours with the subject surrendering just after six this morning.

Police say criminal charges are still under investigation.

There were no reported injuries and no shots were fired by police.
