Health officials are looking into recent illness linked to a local high school program.
The Kent County Health Department says it’s investigating a likely outbreak of Cryptosporidiosis in people connected to Rockford High School varsity football.
Officials confirmed a second case on Friday and say about 30 people have reported similar symptoms.
Cryptosporidiosis is a contagious, parasitic infection that can be spread in a variety of ways but most commonly through water.
The KCHD says symptoms begin two to ten days after infection and include diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting and dehydration.
Health officials performed a health assessment Thursday at the school and do not believe there are issues at the building or with the water supply. Officials say the source is likely exposure or activities related to the varsity team.
The department recommends practicing "rigorous personal hygiene and sanitation in the home environment," and encourages those with symptoms to report it to their family doctor.
