The worst is coming for the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids.
The National Weather Service is predicting a water level of 21.5 feet by the weekend, close to the record set in April 2013.
Jared Maples, a meteorologist, says it's a combination of rain and melting snow flowing over hard soil and into the Grand River from other rivers, especially the Thornapple.
Maples says more rain is predicted but it's not expected to be significant.
He says February flooding from rain and melting snow is unusual on the Grand River.
Spring flooding is more common.
Upstream in Lowell, the Kent County fairgrounds were flooded and water was encroaching at the city's wastewater plant.
